Dallas Center Police Chief Michelle Leonard wants to take this opportunity to alert residents of an increase in reports of thefts from vehicles and garages in neighboring communities.
Although our area has not currently been affected, we can only anticipate the incidents will continue to spread into our community as our weather conditions improve.
To reduce your chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime, remember to keep your overhead garage doors closed during the day and night and remove any/all valuable items from your vehicles.
The suspects in these crimes randomly canvas residential neighborhoods looking for residents who have left their garage doors open and/or their motor vehicles unsecured.
This "opportunity" allows criminals to gain quick and easy access to any/all of the property contained within with little or no detection.
We also ask residents to report any suspicious activity or unfamiliar people or vehicles in your neighborhood. You can make a report by calling dispatch at 993-4567 day or night. Dispatch will contact the Dallas Center officer on duty and send us your way.
Crime prevention, including protecting yourself and your property from crime, is a shared responsibility of law enforcement and the community.
